How much does a patio awning cost?

What size patio awning do I need?

You can find approximate measurements for garden patio awnings and canopies by measuring your desired width and projection. The width refers to the wall-mounted bar length; to determine this, use a tape measure across your wall in a horizontal line. The projection is the depth of the folding arms and correlates with how much shelter is required for your patio. This will be a multiple of 0.5m and is most commonly 2.5m, but it can range up to 4m. As a general rule, the awning canopy projection should be 0.5m less than the width. You’ll be provided with accurate measurements during your free, no-obligation survey.

Can I use a patio awning in the rain?

Patio awnings are not intended for use in moderate or heavy rain; this is due to the potential pooling of rainwater on the cover which can put undue strain on the support structure and fabric, causing it to stretch. As such, taking care of your patio awning by fully retracting it during wetter conditions is essential in order to extend its lifespan and maintain its visual appeal. Higher-grade models, however, can usually withstand light rain showers without sustaining any harm, but they must be pitched at least 15 degrees to prevent any structural damage or voiding of warranty.

Do I need planning permission to install a patio awning?

Residential awnings and canopies do not typically require planning permission. However, if the garden or patio awning encroaches on a neighbouring property or public area, we highly recommend contacting the local council before installation to check local specifications. Commercial awnings and canopies usually require planning permission.
